In 2008, Freshlyground, one of South Africa's most beloved bands, played a highly acclaimed concert at Afro-Latino, just before their 2010 global mega-hit ‘Waka Waka’ with Shakira, the official World Cup song at the time. Founded in 2002, the trademark of this now-legendary South African band is uplifting Afropop. ‘Ma’Cheri’ from 2007 achieved five times platinum status, and their biggest hit, ‘Waka Waka’, was yet to come. Now, after a six-year hiatus, Freshlyground announces their return to the music scene with new lead singer Mbali Makhoba. The band recorded a new album in Zimbabwe with multiple Grammy Award winner JB Arthur as producer. Meanwhile, the title track from their new album, ‘Take Me Home’, has been released, and an international tour is planned, including one stop in Belgium at ‘their’ Afro-Latino Festival.
